This conversation is now about PLANES.

20 years ago back when we still had the old airport(built right next to the city), this happened a dozen times a day.

RE: The Derp Thread - WeAreNobody - 06-01-2015 05:57 PM

The other night I was coming home from work and saw these lights in the sky and assumed it was a plane. At first I thought no big deal but realized it was super low to the ground and then thought hey, that plane is going right where me and my girlfriend live. That's when I panicked and couldn't decide if I should warn her that a fucking plane was about to crash and tell her to stay in the house or get out. Then I drove by a hospital and it was a helicopter landing at the helipad. Felt like a real dumbass there.

My aunt lives by an international airport and one day I was driving behind it when all of a sudden, fucking see a huge ass motherfucking plane in the sky starting to land. My only thought was "oh shit" as it flew over my head. Never realized how huge planes were until that moment

Hello people. After two weeks, I am finally, officially back! Big Grin So indeed, my OS was corrupted and I sent it to my cousin’s husband to give it a diagnosis and perform what’s needed to be done.

He returned it to me three days ago (Thursday, 18th January, 2015) and starting from there, I began setting up my laptop to just that way it was before my OS got corrupted. At least, as much as 85% like how it was. Nothing can be a 100% unless I’m an IT expert, which I am not. Fortunately, my D drive was untouched whereas the main OS C drive was wiped. I had backups by accessing my laptop’s drive with an HDD enclosure so that didn’t isn’t an issue – I just had to wait for hours to transfer the C drive backups. At least I didn’t have to transfer the D drive backups. That one has more files and worth more gb than the C Drive.

The next day, I went through the pains of reinstalling vital and essential programs and drives (such as touchpad, graphics, webcam, etc). And honestly, I didn’t think it would be so quick. The last time I had to do it, that was within the first year I had this laptop, it took me a week. I ultimately finished installing practically all the important stuff on that day with some that I did later. On that day, I watched the first Godfather movie with my lil’ brother.

The next day after that… it wasn’t all that spiffy and smooth. Honestly, I thought I was close to being done. I continued on setting up my laptop and at the same time, I was installing some stuff and testing them and then finally, personalizing my PC settings and whatnot. And then when I thought I should restart my laptop just to ensure everything’s done, something came up during boot, something about checking HDD for consistency. After waiting for hours for that to complete, I found that I couldn’t access my D drive. I was panicking. I felt like I was almost about to break down again. But I tried to stay calm and fixed the issue.

Honestly, yesterday (Saturday, 18th January, 2015), I was supposed to be typing this up for you at around 6pm. The consistency check ended around 7pm and for 8 hours, I was trying to gain access to my D drive. I went back to a restore point, fixed certain credentials, fixed permissions and whatnot et voila! I fixed all my issues. I mean, when I first managed to gain access into my D drive, I can access it just fine. As long I have my files. But that wasn’t enough, entering any of my folders required an “Administrator’s Permission” and because of that, it affected the many convenient shortcuts I have strategically placed. So I worked hard to ensure everything ran smoothly. After I fixed that, I absolutely CANNOT access my anti-virus software (BitDefender). So I had to do some stuff with it and uninstall it. After several times restarting my laptop, I had to install it and that didn’t go well at all. Again, after restarting my laptop several times, I finally got it to install.

From here, I’m pretty close to done. When I finally installed BitDefender, it was around 2:30am. I watched some YouTube videos and listened to addicting tracks to keep me sane and calm.

I slept that night with my laptop downloading and installing 199 windows updates. I woke up at 9am to find around 160 done. I then slept for another 3 hours. After cleaning myself up and having lunch, I finally completed all of that and here I am, typing this up for all of you.

I stay somewhat anxious but I’m happy to have my laptop back.

I’m not completely done. I have some things I need doing, backing up my D drive and analyzing/defragmentation but I’ll leave that for when I sleep in the coming days.

I am back, and hopefully, my laptop would not pull another stunt like this.

Seriously, that day, back when my OS got corrupted (Sunday, 11th January, 2015), I was just watching YouTube videos and planned to chill by playing This War of Mine, since I have to get back to work on my next novella of my short crossover series for the rest of the new week. And then I had Blue Screen of Death. OS corrupted. Computer ded.

Well, here’s to hoping that nothing like this will happen again. And here’s to hoping I get a new laptop sooner than later, in the event that it’s finally my laptop’s time (which is around 5 years old).
